Many prospects were curious about how we do things at Totus so we decided to start writing about us. How we achieve the lowest costs while maintaining six nines of uptime with the lowest latency and a friendly approach.
We will be exploring these and many more in follow-up articles, including:

There is nothing wrong with Amazon, Azure or Google Cloud, but we believe online services would benefit from less concentration and more humane businesses, a less corporate, more down-to-earth approach.
A Totus Core Value is that you can Talk With Us
Sometimes some APIs are custom-made for our clients, but we aim to have generally available APIs ... We recognise that one size does not fit all.
We have heard hundreds of horror stories about massive bills, accounts closed in silence without recourse or explanation. So many stories that it has become a dark internet meme.
You, like most companies (including ourselves) cannot afford to have a battalion of lawyers to deal with the "Enterprise Cloud Provider" in order to get answers. We know what it is to build on sand, even if they tell us they are rock solid, like in October 2025 both Amazon and Azure mass failures for almost 24 hours, each.
We have built at Totus a rock-solid platform without the enterprise part of it. We will elaborate in the following articles about this. But we can withstand: multiple datacenters closures, (including our accounts getting closed), hardware failures, network failures, software failures (we monitor all APIs and services constantly and we can come back to previous states instantly), etc. Overall, we know we can provide "enterprise" quality (questionable nowadays what "enterprise" quality is) at start-up costs.
Those are our values; they are simple, and on top, we charge as little as possible.
For each endpoint or service we do a precise calculation of how much it costs us to provide one unit of the service, i.e. an API call, a DNS zone. In this calculation we include supporting the service, pro-rata cost of development, compute and networking costs, etc. Once we achieve a final cost number per unit charged, we a add fixed percentage fee (our profit) to it, and that is what we charge. No more, no less. Math.
We do not charge based on utility, i.e. some APIs might be unique and no competitor is around providing them. We could potentially charge higher rates for it, but we do not engage in price gouging. We sell volume, we sell the shovels you use for building your business.
The basic account is prepaid, you are in total control, no surprise invoices. We have the option for postpay accounts.
We build the building blocks you connect with AI together. We are creating the tools the AIs will use to code for you. We aim to be as humane as possible with our business dealings, but ironically our products are likely to be picked by Artificial Intelligences for their simplification of their workflow and to allow them to produce higher-level software.
You don't want your AI to spend hours implementing a video codec, or audio compressor, you use FFMPEG or a well-established one, in a similar fashion your AI leverages Totus building blocks (like Legos) to implement higher level systems. Therefore, we focus on services APIs. Also, the APIs will have to run somewhere, isn't?
For being around and reading this, for showing interest. The articles are going to be amazing and you will enjoy them very much, we will try to share as much as possible our secret recipes.
